Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynette Welker.
Lynette, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I originally started working for the previous owners when I was 15 years old. I continued to work here through high school and college and in 2001 we, my sister, brother-in-law and myself, took over the company from the previous owners. Ever since we have been working together to grow the business to what it is today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While working for yourself is great it has constant challenges. Right after we took over, in April 2001, our country suffered the attacks of 9/11 and that was an extremely difficult time of uncertainty. After we made it through then the housing market crashed in 2008 and we watched as many builders and fellow businesses shut down. We were able to make it through without letting anyone go and staying true to our brand. These days the challenges are far less serious and revolve around learning new ways to better serves our customers.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Knobbery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Knobbery is a family owned business and has been since it opened in 1994. We have Chicagoland’s largest selection of cabinet hardware and more. We’re home to thousands of cabinet knobs, handles, bathroom fixtures, door hardware & more. From traditional to contemporary and from quirky to one of a kind. If you don’t see what you need we will find it for you! We treat your home with the same care and concern as you do. Our design associates are always available and eager to assist you.
We not only specialize in hardware from all over the world, we pride ourselves and extraordinary customer service. From the smallest furniture piece redo to the largest whole home project we assist our clients with every detail to make sure the end result is everything they imagined.
While we strive to have an amazing selection, what brings us the most pride is the relationships we have with our clients and customers. With many of them we have become friends and that is something we are most grateful for.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With all of the product lines that we have available we are always feeling like we are running out of space so we would love to find a larger showroom nearby that we could expand and provide even more for our customer.
