Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Blomquist.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I came to Rape Victim Advocates as an intern in the Advocacy Program through my university class. I was passionate about feminism but interning and volunteering with this local organization lead me down a unique career path. I went on to work for RVA as the Stroger Medical Advocate, Senior Medical Advocate, Northside Prevention Educator, and now Director of Education and Training.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always struggles. When I began working there was some financial instability due to the IL state budget. Unfortunately this is something I continue to see to this day. And of course there are difficulties with vicarious trauma, prioritizing self-care, and dealing with resistance from individuals and institutions on the issue of rape.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rape Victim Advocates – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
There are plenty of things that make Rape Victim Advocates stand out. We have high quality services and are known for this in our community. We are an extremely mission driven organization. RVA is known to be thought leaders on the issue of sexual violence.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As far as our agency? We are looking to expand our professional training efforts and bring more tools and knowledge into the community. It’s a very exciting time of growth within Rape Victim Advocates. And for me? Who knows what the future holds!
