Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Fockler.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey into healthcare began in my teens when I gave up eating meat. I was always concerned about how the environment and what we eat can affect our physical health as well as our mental health. And after watching a family member struggle to find help in the Western medical world for years, I knew there had to be a different way to find relief and move towards real healing.
My first love is nutrition, and I have a Maters of Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health. But what’s so amazing about Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is that it takes the whole picture into account when diagnosing. This includes the environment, nutrition, and emotional states. I knew it was my calling when I started receiving treatments for my own health issues.
I graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago several years ago and have been providing acupuncture to the underserviced community of Little Village at Project Vida, as well as, building my private practice in the Gold Coast.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The education requirements for becoming an acupuncturist are really intense and challenging. It’s a rigorous program that changed my life, demanding dedication and rearranging of priorities and relationships with yourself and your loved ones. It’s no joke!
Of course, being an entrepreneur is a huge struggle in itself, no matter the industry, but when you are also trying to affect people’s lives on such a deep level, it can take on more weight.
Please tell us about Jennifer L Fockler, L.Ac.
I specialize in pain management, fertility and women’s health, and stress and anxiety. For many people, health conditions can be intertwined and overlapping. I really enjoy helping my patients peel back the layers so they can find relief and improve their lives. Of course, helping someone through the process of making babies is absolutely amazing and such a gift! I feel honored to help them on their journey and to be a part of the team. In the end, it’s not really about me, it’s about empowering my patients and finding tools that work for them.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Win the lottery!! J/K I think I wouldn’t have waited so long to start school. I knew this is what I was meant to do with my life, but I spent a good part of my 20’s and half of my 30’s doing everything else. I ignored that little voice inside, until my personal journey made it mandatory. I think if you are making big life changes, it’s never going to be easy and there is no good time to do it, you just have to jump at some point. And then even after you jump, there’s always more to do, more to grow, and more to learn. Leading with your heart can be tricky and scary, but it is absolutely the most rewarding.
