Meet Catherine Zwergel, Tracy Walsh, and Thomas Zwergel of Lighthouse Yoga & Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Zwergel, Tracy Walsh, and Thomas Zwergel.

Catherine, Tracy, and Thomas, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Each individually pursuing goals of good health and well-being we came together organically, two siblings and a spouse. We envisioned a place where we would one day be able to share our vision of wellness with others. This idea evolved into Lighthouse Yoga & Acupuncture: a safe haven where everyone, regardless of age or level of practice, can participate in the process of wellness through the knowledge and experience of our teachers and practitioners.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As any small business owner knows, you have to be all things to all people: the savvy business person, the PR expert, the web designer (luckily we’ve had expert help there!), the troubleshooter… it’s challenged us all in different ways, but ultimately being three people bringing different skills to the table, we have managed, and excelled, for nearly five years!

Please tell us about Lighthouse Yoga & Acupuncture.
We’d like to start with what we are most proud of: the warm and genuine feedback we get from our students and patients. They feel at home at Lighthouse, with its strong sense of community, where they’re heard and supported. We offer yoga classes for all levels, and the acupuncture treatments are tailored to each individual’s challenges and health goals. In other facets of Lighthouse, we offer yoga teacher trainings, workshops, community acupuncture, Zero Balancing, teen classes and yoga for the special child.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
With so many roles involved in running a small business, this is difficult because lessons come up frequently. In the beginning, maybe we could’ve gotten a few more ducks in a row to ease some inevitable stress. But honestly, at some point you have to trust, accepting that total preparation is impossible, and just go for it! We’ve had consistent moral support from our loved ones, friends, and the whole community even before we opened. This helped the initial transition, easing many obstacles and rough patches along the way.

Coming to Lighthouse Yoga for class with Thomas has been a stabilizing and empowering experience. I have moved away and I know better than to try to replace that in my life. I now have to take what I learned about how to approach the practice with self care and confidence I will listen to my body and not injure myself as I seek out other yoga instructors. Thomas is amazing at teaching how to modify and work with my own body in the traditional poses. I appreciate the peaceful and uplifting space that these three created.
