Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiley Peters.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kiley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been working in digital marketing for about eight years. I’ve worked at search marketing and ad tech agencies; I’ve worked client side managing digital marketing initiatives for The Second City; I’ve been a partner at a boutique PR and content marketing agency; I owned a freelance digital marketing consultancy for three years and ran a popular Chicago comedy blog for two years. I built my first WordPress website in 2010 and have built dozens since. It’s safe to say I’m not afraid of change!
I’ve bounced around a bit through my career moves. However, with each move, I intentionally made choices to expose myself to various aspects of the digital space, creating the opportunity to learn many different sides of the industry. That being said, it has always been my goal to own my own company because I have always wanted to own my own time. So I spent the last eight years learning as much as I could and last year found myself in a position to finally make the leap into entrepreneurship full time.
At the end of July of 2016, I was contemplating another career move. After having a conversation with my dad, he asked what it would take for me to start my own company and I said three to four months to get up and running and a dollar amount. He advised me to put together a business plan and that, upon review, he would provide some initial funding for my endeavor. I built a business plan, started Brainchild Studios in September of 2016 and the rest is history. I am incredibly grateful to the support I’ve had from friends and family along the way. I’m so proud of how far we’ve come and am really excited about where we’re going.
Every day is a new adventure and this rollercoaster ride is never ending!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every day is a challenge. The life of an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart or spirit, that’s for sure.
I consider myself very fortunate to have had the amount of support I’ve had from so many different people from the very beginning, but it’s definitely not easy. It’s never easy. There are some days where we’ll have tons of leads come in at once and sign two new clients and then there are other times where we don’t hear anything from anyone for a week or two. It’s so true that one signature or phone call can truly change the face and future of your business.
At the end of the day though, it’s important to remember why you’re doing what you’re doing and what your goals are. If you still feel strongly about your mission, your purpose and you’re enjoying the journey, continuing to grow, and hopefully still paying the bills, then you’re on the right path. You’re doing just fine.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brainchild Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
Brainchild Studios is a boutique full service web design and digital marketing agency. We utilize best practices, data and behavioral tendencies to drive our designs and increase conversions for our clients. We primarily work with small and medium sized businesses and enjoy developing fun and collaborative relationships with our clients!
Our main focus is providing affordable, quality, custom web designs and digital marketing services that solve our clients’ business needs. Our agency reflects the same values we hold as individuals: treat people fairly, with kindness and act in their best interest. We really focus on hiring kind, talented people who get the job done on time and meet our high standards when it comes to quality deliverables. We also bring on clients who we’re confident we can help, understand the value we bring to the table and we think we’ll be able to laugh with a bit with along the way.
Lastly, we train our clients so they feel comfortable making small day-to-day edits to their website. We believe this is important so they truly feel self-sufficient managing this entity that will serve as their main online footprint. As a company, we are very proud of the client success stories we’ve had thus far and that we continue to maintain a high quality of service.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. However, that being said I do consider myself very lucky to have the support system and opportunities that I have had in my life. I think your attitude and perspective on life and business is all pretty relative but it plays a big part in what kind of attention and people you attract. The more good you put out into the world, the more good will find you and vice versa.
I’m also a huge proponent of applying the number one rule in improvisation to life: yes and. If you “yes” or accept, everything as it is and then “and” it, or contribute something new to it, you’ll find this incredible momentum start to build and new opportunities start rolling in. It’s been a real life changer for me.
