Today we’d like to introduce you to Okan Sengullu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Okan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father started in the automotive business in 1983 with a transmission shop on Southport near Belmont. He had multiple shops at one point. I came to work one day very late and he was running around like a mad man and was not happy with me. So I started working for a national chain store in 1996 right here in Lincoln park worked with them for about ten years then leased a 3 bay shop out of a gas station in Lincoln park and after five years with the help of my father I purchased Bucaro Brothers who has been established in the Lincoln park area since 1976. I pride myself with taking care of people. I don’t pay my guys commissions or book time because I’m a firm believer it opens doors for overselling. I can’t make everyone happy but I try my best.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles began when I took over Bucaro Brothers even thou that been in business for many years and had a somewhat of a loyal customer base. It took me some time to get established I went through a lot of stress and even only after 8 months of taking over this business I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease which I’m sure was because of the stress. But thank god both my health and business are doing well today.
Bucaro Brothers Auto Care – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We work on almost all makes a do a lot of work that other shops probably can’t do or would prefer to stay away from. We do make mistakes once in a while but one thing we do is we try never to reflect our mistakes on customers meaning charging them for repairs that didn’t take care of their problem. I genuinely believe as long as you take care of people they will end up taking care of you by giving u business and recommending people.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Knowing that every day in an industry that is filled with horror stories that I have never ever ever ever intentionally taken advantage of a customer or a situation.
