Today we’d like to introduce you to Collin Pham.
Collin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
NU|Tutors started in 2007 as a part of Northwestern Student Holdings, a non-profit student organization associated with Northwestern University. NSH’s mission is to promote business education of students through practical experience. NSH has four portfolio companies, all of which are student run. One of these companies is NU|Tutors. The “CEO” of NU|Tutors transitions out every year.
Since NU|Tutor’s inception, we have been servicing the greater Evanston area, mainly focusing on high school tutoring.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NU|Tutor’s largest struggle has always been its high turnover rate. Because it is student run, and leadership transitions out every year, mistakes are often repeated until learned from multiple times. While this is beneficial for each student that goes through the hiccup, it is usually not beneficial for the company.
Additionally, NU|Tutors parent organization NSH has recently become dissociated with the university. We have been working hard to establish ourselves as an independent non-profit, deal with the logistics of payroll and insurance, and many other challenges.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about NU|Tutors – what should we know?
NU|Tutors is an Evanston area tutoring company that services mainly the high school market. We exclusively pull from the Northwestern student talent pool. In our market, we are known for our 1-1 tutoring and ACT/SAT preparation classes. We are very proud of the improvements on test scores and grades we have on our students.
