Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris G.
Chris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Went to college at the University of Buffalo, majoring in Music and Psychology. Moved to Atlanta, started working in Studios as a musician and producer. Studios like Bosstown, Uni, Silent Partner and Laface. After gaining valuable experience at the Studios I was offered a gig by recording engineer David Young (Michael Jackson, Devante Swing, Nate Dogg, Warren G.) to come to Los Angeles and work for the Devante Swing Project (Jodeci) which was signed to Atlantic Records at the time. This gave me invaluable experience as a Producer and Engineer, which I then took to Chicago to work for Studio Chicago which was then on Clybourne. To this day, many of those artists are stayed my clients, when I opened my own Studio, Chris G Productions. Chris G. Productions has done commercials for M&M’s, and provided music for The Real Housewives of Atlanta and more recently Chicago PD, Some of my artists come from all over the country, including Adam Emil, (Chicago) who is currently a touring member of Color Me Badd.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being in the Music Industry definitely comes with its ups and downs, I suppose this is true of any industry. But I’ve been very blessed working with artists that just want to create. The artists that I have been blessed to work with, have had an innate desire to make music. These are the ones I find the most appealing and interesting. Those artists are the most real for me. They’re not confined by the current market (Though they’re music certainly can be described that way) to me, most real artists have to create, no matter what’s going on around them. This has always been my definition, and those are the ones I gravitate towards, and enjoy working with the most. To me, that’s a real artist. So I suppose, the only real struggle is finding those kinds of artists, and to have them find me. The only basic struggle is just keeping up with the changes in equipment and keeping your skills up as a producer, songwriter and musician.

My business, Chris G. Productions specializes in writing and recording songs for the Artist, which I really enjoy. I’m not just an engineer and producer, but I’ll help create the song with the artist as well. I like to be able to help in every step of the process, if needed, from creation to recording. I’m very proud of the fact that if you work with me, I’ll help create a product that’s ready for consumption. That is, ready for the radio or television. Besides this, I’m also known as a vocal coach, so I can help the artist not only sound great for the recording, but also be prepared to perform live.
What were you like growing up?
When it comes to music I was always driven. I started playing piano at 7, and by the time I was 13, I was practicing 3 hours a night. My first gig was at 13. Which my piano teacher sent me on because he was too busy play it. It was a fashion show. By the time I was 16, I had my first band and was making money at the local restaurants and bars around the city. Music always came first, though I played a little football and basketball as a kid. The other little known interest that I had was martial arts, which I trained in for 9 years. I have a brown belt in Kenpo karate.
