Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Da Costa.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Malcolm. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up I was always fascinated with art. I even took a few classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. I worked for an art and antiques moving company for 20+ years. Worked my way up through the company dealt with a lot of different aspects of the company. As a foreman I was able to work closely with a lot of amazing customers and able to listen to the needs they needed to accomplish their projects. I saw there was a need for a company that dealt with customers valued art and that people at times felt a little uneasy trusting there art to just a mover. Thus Art Proficiency was born.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any new path that someone takes there are always a few bumps in the road. I think things have been a lot easier than expected. But one of the biggest struggles I’ve had is to get your companies name out there to customers that may need your services.
Please tell us about Art Proficiency.
Art Proficiency is an art services company that provides customers with services from; professional art installations, packing and crating, shipping, delivery and pick-ups, storage, as well as providing cleaning services. Art Proficiency specializes in providing professional art installation for both residential and commercial properties. We also specialize in secured installs of art pieces for commercial properties (e.g. hotels and restaurants or places where a lot of people pass. Art needs to be installed in a way that avoids theft and safely stays on wall in case someone was to bump into it). The thing that sets us apart is the hands on and personalization that we have with each client to make sure that any vision or idea they may have we will accomplish.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be, being told that my piece was selected to be in the 100th anniversary of the Art Institute of Chicago commemorative book. Really cool for someone so young 11yrs old I believe.
