Meet Imari Craft of Yellow Magazine in Southside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Imari Craft.

Imari, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out drafting multiple websites until I had a real reason to write. Two years ago I officially started imaricraft.com which is a digital platform I created to spread awareness on Chicago artist, musicians, business owners, and etc. I have got to where I am today but consistently posting and trying to improve my writing style. YMag is here to create a digital and physical presence.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has had its ups n downs. I use to be scared of what people would think, but I’ve learned to just post whatever I feel is good concept. Struggles of not being noticed but I realized people choose to pay attention to things that interest them and that’s okay my writing prompts aren’t always for everyone.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
YMag also known as Yellow Magazine is a digital marketing platform. I want to cross the boundaries between the traditional marketing and modern technology. Creating a mix media outlet where everyone can be noticed. With a physical presence of creating live installations and prints. I’m most proud of the growth and development my brand has had in so little time. YMag is different because it will include all forms of media interactions never seen in a magazine digital or physical.

More Physical copies will be available soon as well as an ebook version of both copies. A new volume and event coming next year.
For my very first event in which I decorated and blueprinted I was completely nervous and excited. I was more concerned with the outcome but I learned that my brand was and is being noticed.
I still don’t know what I call myself or my brand I find myself being a creative director, a model, a networking, and overall a creative. I think I will form a creative agency that gathers all the communities.

What were you like growing up?
I remember myself as a very shy yet outgoing individual. I was a tomboy growing up didn’t really get along with girls my age and I honestly can’t tell you why. I had more luck making friends with the boys around me then them and I still have the same interaction well besides my friends now. I was interested in everything I use to dance I was doing that for 10 years also getting into swimming, painting, most people don’t know I was in the choir growing up. I loved music still do and I guess you can say that’s why I created my brand.
