Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Horn.
Jillian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a new stay at home mom taking care of a perfect six-month-old baby boy and felt a small void. Something was missing. I missed the craziness of working and having deadlines. I missed having something that wasn’t fully baby focused. Little man keeps me plenty busy but I couldn’t help but feel that I could be doing more. I started to dabble into the blogging world and fell in love. I’m a very bubbly and open person so I genuinely love sharing pieces of my life with people and in return feel like I learn a lot from other’s feedback or comments.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are a lot of amazingly talented influencers out there that have been doing this a lot longer than me so it can be a hard world to break into. Most, but not all, are very welcoming and willing to share their knowledge and help how they can. It’s hard at the beginning to find your groove. Your path. What makes you stand out? Sometimes it’s still a struggle to find my groove but overall, I feel like I have been fortunate enough to find my passions and share those.
What else should we know?
I am a Chicago based influencer with emphasis on travel, motherhood and fashion/beauty. My favorite posts, usually, are the more personal ones or content that includes my family. I love sharing peeks into our daily adventures! I like to think my authenticity sets me apart from others. My husband is very supportive of my venture so he often makes appearances in my story or in posts and I think his humor mixed in with my content is also unique. We are a close family and just loving goofing around and sharing peeks into our daily routines!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, personally, I think I have two different areas in which I am wanting to be successful. That would be with my home life and my work life. For home life success, my main goal is that my son and husband are happy and healthy. That comes first. With work success, I try to make little goals for myself every month. For example, when I started venturing into the blogging world, I had around 2k followers on Instagram. I would set a goal every month for how much I wanted this number to increase. Markers like this might seem silly but to me, it means people are following along more and more because they like or can relate to what I am sharing. That’s huge to me. If I don’t meet my goal that month or see not increase in my numbers than maybe I need to review the content and change it up a bit. Gives me direction.
