Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Nicole.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have a strong love for music. But to be specific R&B music, when I was introduced to it I was two years old. Around that time, I guess you can say I didn’t know how much R&B music would impact me. All I knew at age two was that it had a nice tune and sound to it that I enjoyed listening to. As I grew up, I knew singing was something I wanted to do. It wasn’t until the year 2015, my sophomore year of high school when I realized I wanted to touch people and make a difference with my music. Get others to know my story, the real me. To not have to hide, to make it seem as though my life is perfect because nobody’s life is.
I was very down and depressed around this time because my mother was in the hospital and I was forced to move in with my father. My mother was my rock and my world and me and my father bumped heads a lot around this time. So, you can only imagine how much of a struggle it was for me. To know somebody, you love dearly is in the hospital not knowing if they will survive or not. Considering she was the one who usually helps me get over things I was stuck with myself to deal with these issues alone. My emotions were always silenced whenever my father and would get into it. Or even brought up the fact that my mother was in the hospital. And if any company would come around, I was told to put on a front like nothing ever happened. So, when it comes to me and R&B music, I love the way you can freely express yourself in a song. Without having to speak it into words but singing it in a song. For people to understand how you feel and not having to use direct contact to do so. Not just R&B music, but the music itself has gotten me through a lot over the years. It’s been very therapeutic and soothing for my soul and my mind.
My only mission in life is to make it, make a difference in someone’s else life who may have similar issues or going through a struggle. To let them know it’s always going to be an obstacle in the way. The thing is how are you going to turn it around and overcome it. Today, I am still trying to continue my dream at Columbia College of Chicago with majoring in Music Business Management. Finding little venues for people to hear my work, I’ve longed for this opportunity to become a singer since the age of two. I know my time is coming it just takes patience and I’m okay with that because there are still some things I need to learn. Before I can become a master at what I love.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Trying to get into the music industry has and never will be easy. It will always be a hassle but it will also be a passion of mine to become an entertainer. One of the issues I’ve experienced in trying to become an entertainer is finding studio time. Finding the perfect producers for my unique sound also finding a studio that’s affordable. Being a full-time college student doesn’t give you the opportunity to have a full-time job. To make money so I have to make do with what I have.
Please tell us about your work.
I write music and try to find producers to help make my tracks so that I can then record them. What I’m trying to accomplish is being able to become a singer while also running my own music business. I’m different from other people because I try to connect my music to others. None of the things I write are made up, it’s all from experience, of things I’ve been through. I’m more open to people with my music rather than just having a regular conversation with people face to face.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
It’s only still the beginning for me, so there’s nothing I would’ve done differently to change where I am now. There’s still lots of growing and maturing for me to do.
