Today we’d like to introduce you to Macie Crumb.
Macie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Long story short, I’m just a gal from Fort Wayne, Indiana who has always had a passion for movement. I grew up training in many dance forms while learning about health and wellness from my momma who is a fitness instructor. When I made the move to Chicago, I realized I could pursue my passion for both dance and fitness fields simultaneously. Since then, I’ve continued honing my dance craft while performing and choreographing alongside teaching fitness classes full time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh man, definitely struggles. I was a brand new high school graduate freshly 18 years old when I moved to Chicago. I made the decision to not go to college and instead pursue what I’d always known (being dance and fitness). With skipping the usual four years between living at home and the “real world”, I definitely had a hard time adjusting to a new place while figuring things out on my own. Now, looking back, I can see I was incredibly blessed in that season of life including meeting my now husband the day I moved to the city (crazy right?!). I truly believe that the struggles (which we all face by the way) are purposefully placed in our paths to better prepare us for what is to come. Embrace the struggle friends and know that it’s temporary!
Please tell us about your work.
I currently teach group fitness classes at Studio Three in the Yoga and Interval studios. I freaking LOVE my job and could not imagine fitness not being a part of my life. Outside of that schedule, I’m choreographing and teaching dance classes while also taking classes from as many people as I can. I’ve found that putting myself in class is a great way to continue to learn and grow as a dancer and teacher.
Overall, my passion for health, wellness, and movement cover my entire life. I love having an active lifestyle while coaching others in ways to have the same.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
Books and podcasts are definitely helpful resources but I’ve found one of the best resources to actually be real-life relationships with real-life people. I’m not talking about someone‘s Instagram but connecting with them face-to face in real time. I truly believe sharing knowledge and learning from one another is invaluable. We shouldn’t ever stop learning. Whether it be about our work, hobbies, our spouse, etc. It’s important to always continue to research, ask questions and get to know our subjects from different perspectives. We’ll never know it all but it’s awesome to have the ability to learn and share with others.
