Meet Lexi Williams of Lexie Williams Photography in Loop and Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Williams.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My mom (yay mom!), actually sparked my interest in digitally preserving memories. In being an observer. And connecting with subjects in a natural, humanistic way. I became increasingly interested in photojournalism thru high school in college. I’ve really always been a photographer. Toting around a Lil Tykes plastic camera, point + shoot, camera phone (you name it, I’ve had it, really).

I studied light, shadows and angles even when I wasn’t or couldn’t shoot (camera gear is so expensive). I did pursue other non-art related studies + fields before finally surrendering to the study of light – PHOTOGRAPHY. And, we’ve been involved in a long standing love affair for a very long time.

I worked for years (most of the time for free!) documenting families, still life, babies, pets – until I stumbled across my one true love. WEDDINGS.

I felt that documenting weddings (and events), gave me full creative freedom to be a photojournalist, and document the ultimate commitment in REALTIME. I’ve spent thousands of hours, and traveled thousands of miles to hone in and create my own version of a “love story”. I pour my heart and soul into creating timeless, classic wedding photojournalism that I know will be shared for years to come + thru generations upon generations.

My favorite part of being a wedding photographer is being able to see + feel when my subjects/clients truly open their souls up to me. It’s magical. And I really believe I have, and will change the way people feel about being photographed. I believe that I help others understand what is truly important in a photograph – your natural beautiful self. That’s what you’ll want to see + share in (50) years.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
NO way. LOL. Editing requires almost every free moment of my life. Which I’m happy to give + sacrifice to tangible art.

Every day is a learning process + lesson, and I’ve had to grow some insanely thick skin to survive during (12) hours of shooting huge events, learning different personalities, working with other vendors, setting healthy boundaries, standing by my art + did I mention editing? : ) it’s a heavily saturated market that you have to trudge thru every day to get your name out there. But man, is it worth it.

If it were not for the struggles, I don’t think I’d be so passionate about photography.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We like to leave everything how we’ve found them! We pride ourselves on being respectful, professional and attentive. And in making lasting connections, not just without clients, but with all of the other Midwest wedding vendors out there (there are so many fantastic businesses out here!).

We are known for narrative wedding photojournalism, capturing tons and tons of expression + movement. And documenting honest, raw, timeless and natural engagement and wedding day photographic documentation.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up on a small island in the British West Indies, The Cayman Islands. So I’m a small town girl at heart. But, I’ve always been a little “feisty” and passionate in just about anything that I’ve down. Lol. This has its positives + negatives.

I’ve always, always, been an advocate for others with less of a voice, or opportunities than myself. And have been incredibly empathetic since a young age.

I’d describe myself as a very friendly, introvert. Art (in tons of mediums + methods) has always been my saving grace. My best friend. Creating tangible art gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction that I haven’t found anywhere else.
