Patt, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Since I was a child, I’ve been interested in the visual arts. I used to watch movies day and night and I remember analyzing the cinematography carefully. Afterwards, I immersed myself in the world of fashion and it was there where I found my passion for photography. This helped train me to become more precise while observing the things that I photograph.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I find inspiration in film, music and fashion. I try to project my feelings through photography. I capture the positive side of any negative situation to create a truly beautiful image that shows people the incredible things that are happening in front of them. I think many people don’t stop to analyze, and I like to find things that not everyone sees.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Do everything for yourself. Do what you love to make yourself happy, and never give up. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to express yourself through art. The financial reward will only come as a result of the work that you’re really passionate about, and if it doesn’t— you should still feel proud of what you’ve created.

As an independent and enterprising visual artist, I usually show my work through Instagram (@pattblk.) I appreciate the fact that people take the time to look closely at my work, and I’m open to any advice or opinions that help me improve.
