Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started playing drums when I was 17. It made the most sense to me. I didn’t need to learn chords or notes, I could just play. I joined a few bands and enjoyed that a lot but things slowly fell apart and I realized I wanted to do something more, so I decided to start writing songs by myself. I made tapes, mixes, instrumentals, anything that came to mind. I’ve worked on songs for singers and rappers in the city for the last several years, these days I’m writing and recording a lot on my own.
Has it been a smooth road?
Never. Everyday is a new hurdle. Sometimes living your life is a full-time job and you have to be mature enough to know when you need to prioritize. I’ve gone to the hospital before because I worked myself into a state of exhaustion. I struggle a lot with my own mindset sometimes as well, I would be a liar if I said I’ve never doubted myself or my situation, but I try to always stay positive and motivated.
Tell us more about your work and what you hope people will take away from it.
I want to help people understand themselves better. I feel like everyone deserves that. My product is emotion. I want my songs to lend people the environment that they feel comfortable enough to confront themselves and express their true feelings. I love music that communicates genuine emotion. Not everyone wants to be honest about how they feel, but I do.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I try to live in the present these days, and not look too far ahead. I’ll always be writing music, it’s a part of me. In the near future will be a lot more visual content as well as collaborations. I’ve been drawing and working on clothes more recently when I’m not recording.
