Meet Diane Green of This Is It Gallery in Pilsen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Green.

Diane, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Museum of Universal Self-Expression or M.U.S.E., Inc. began in 2003 in Chicago, IL. Started by me & Bob Buchholz. This 501(c) (3) non-profit has created a variety of art programs throughout the city of Chicago for over 15 years.

MUSE’s mission is to support and/or create art programs for artistically underserved communities and for people in recovery. MUSE has developed a new avenue over the past three years. In 2015, we started an art studio/gallery, a.k.a. This Is It Gallery.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We work on a voluntary basis. I had brain surgery in 2015. MUSE was on hiatus for a couple of years. However, as luck would have it, someone bought the building I was living in 6 months after my surgery. Bob Buchholz found the gallery space which is now This Is It Studio Gallery where we also reside. We are seeking a larger space within the next 6 months.

What else should we know about your organization, it’s mission, etc.
Our mission is to support art programs in low-income, artistically underserved communities as well as people in recovery. Our work has flourished into places beyond our wildest dreams

MUSE has recently developed is a new avenue over the past two years. In 2015, we started an art studio/gallery, aka This Is It Gallery.
