Today we’d like to introduce you to Carneil Griffin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up in an impoverished neighborhood in the west Austin neighborhood of Chicago, I was the only child to a single parent, one parent being heavily involved in a world of crime. As the published statistical anecdotes describe, raised by my grandmother, I was a product of an underfunded Chicago Public Schools system. My mother being pregnant at age 14, giving birth at 15 early on could not contribute much to the areas of wisdom, entrepreneurship or effectively articulate language concerning my future. However, when she learned something new about the world, she taught me with vigor her being determined not to allow me to rest in the environment in which I was born and raised.
One of those life lessons was: regardless of feelings or appearances there is an entire world of the unseen. Some call it energy, karma, luck, chakra-for myself I know it to be Faith.
Traveling nearly two hours daily to attend a better funded high school, I became extremely successful as competitive Policy Debater. Trained to decipher large amounts of information fast, think critically and articulate with persuasion, my world views changed.
Spending time working for various political candidates, most notably a rising star in the state senate seat whose ideals & story spoke to me (I also thought his name was cool), Barack Obama. I learned the importance of things such as political capitol, fundraising and most importantly how much harder I would have to work being a young Black man who actually understands complexities with ease.
Skip through the rebellious years, go a bit further through the self-identity discovery, and land here in 2018.
I simply have reconstituted my right to dream-as an adult. It is shaped by a direct relationship with God and His Holy Spirit. When I ask for design ideas, I receive them in the form of a dream. I simply use my left brain to interpret my right brain with a policy like precision. I am only in the beginning phases of a life wholly revealed.
Has it been a smooth road?
There is no such thing as a smooth road, the road is an interpretation of what I now know is called process.
Anytime you attempt to jump ahead in the processing season in your life, you will endure a struggle. Be it between your idealism and reality or vision and discipline.
For me, the largest obstacle to this point was learning that not every idea and thought needed to be expressed verbally. So, I shut up and just delivered what was in my head, and Griffin Direction Interiors was born. Now I know that every creative thought, idea or process application that I have is directly transferable into financial wealth.
