Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Dixon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Leah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began making YouTube videos when I was attending The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have naturally curly hair, so I initially began creating content pertaining to hair. I knew my brand would at some point evolve into more than hair, so that is why I chose the name “LeahsEssence.” I eventually wanted my channel to encompass the overall essence of my life.
Over the past few years, my brand has certainly expanded. I now create videos about my faith and Christian lifestyle in addition to making beauty videos. I post Bible study videos and use my platform to encourage women of God. I am a speaker and plan to become an Author in the future. I am so grateful for the platform The Lord has given me to be an encouragement to others. I know this is only the beginning for me!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been the smoothest road, but I can honestly say that God has kept me through every step. An ongoing challenge is finding the right balance between transparency and privacy. There is no one size fits all approach to being a Christian influencer. I have learned that it is important to use discernment and seek guidance in every situation regarding my brand. That means sometimes being still, and always being led by The Lord. As an influencer, that may mean I go against some of the unwritten rules of social media by finding a balance that is most suitable for me.
LeahsEssence – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am proud that I am a vessel God is using to encourage others. I am not the only faith-based influencer out there, but I am unique and true to myself and my audience can relate to that.
I also partner with Christian, natural hair, and beauty brands to advertise their products through my platform.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is not the number of views or likes I get. It is not the amount of money I make. Success is doing what I find passion in, and remaining true to who God has created me to be in the process. Success is allowing the light that is within me to shine, and encouraging others to do the same.
