Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Gutierrez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had an interest in writing, being creative, and wanting to inspire others. I used to compete in beauty pageants, where I learned a lot of public speaking and interview skills. When I started college, I probably changed my major about 4-5 times until I finally found a school AND a major that really sparked my interest, which is Communications. Attending Columbia College Chicago really allowed me to explore my creative side but also my writing side. I took classes on Social Media, Marketing, and Public Relations. That is when I started to look into blogging.
In December of last year, I created my website, Everydayzesty.blog and I decided that I wouldn’t look back. I had zero ideas as to what I was doing, I began to do some research on how to get started and just did it. My website was not perfect, but I knew that if I just started, instead of waiting until it was “perfect”, it would all be worth it. So far, it is definitely worth it. I am so happy that I took the “it needs to be perfect” mentality out of my head because that is definitely what holds a lot of people back from pursuing what they really want to do with their lives.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road, to say the least! (lol) I am the kind of person that likes to be transparent and the truth is, that I am a college student who was figuring out how to make a WordPress website, I was trying to figure out how to read Google Analytics, how to customize and insert plugins to make everything functional, while still completing my school projects, going to class, finding the time to balance the gym and eating healthy and working on top of all of that. It was anything BUT easy. However, it is something I enjoy doing and that was motivation enough to watch a million youtube tutorials on how to work wordpress, LOL!
The advice I have for anyone that wants to begin blogging or begin anything for that matter is to just BEGIN. Just do it and if it isn’t perfect that’s okay! Everything in this world is a learning process and WordPress/blogging/social media is no different. Nothing is perfect but everything is a learning experience.

I am a Chicago based Lifestyle Blogger. When I started to research a niche, I didn’t want to be cornered into one single category so I chose something broad. As I’m creating more content and analyzing what works the best for me, Style, Beauty, Travel & Fitness are what I would like to focus on in the future. That is what my following responds to the most and you have to give the people what they want!
The one thing I’m proud of is figuring out what direction I want to go in when it comes to my career. I started this as a hobby and it turned into something I’m passionate about. I hope that I can inspire others to just go for it. Even more, young Hispanic women. I myself, am Mexican American, and I know what it feels like to look at people and think that they don’t look like me. I personally feel like there is a huge lack of representation when it comes to the Hispanic community. That is mainly why I decided to start this whole journey. I mean, why not me? Right?
The one thing that I believe sets me apart is my Hispanic background. Being fluent in Spanish allows me to connect with a completely different category of people. I think that is such an awesome tool and I’m learning how to use it as I keep growing. There isn’t enough representation of us Latinas, and I want to change that!
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Honestly, one of the biggest barriers to female leadership, in general, is getting genuine support from other women. I love that blogging has connected me to other successful female bloggers who support me and guide me, even when some of these women, I have literally never met in my life. I always stress how important it is for women to support other women. There is more than enough room for all of us to succeed. It’s not a competition and I wish more women understood that concept in general.
