Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Bonsu.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a Ghanaian-American. Growing up in the south side of Chicago, I didn’t have anything but Photography has opened up many doors for me. Growing up 92nd and Drexel I always thought to be happy in life you needed to be a doctor or lawyer. It wasn’t until I went to Kenwood Academy High school that my interested for photography started. I started photographing any and everything. I always thought I was going to be a Pharmacist but it wasn’t until I hit high school that I said “What am I doing with my life, I don’t even like Chemistry” then I went to college and it confirmed that I hated chemistry.
Within that time I started photography, I wasn’t the greatest but I had a great supporting cast around me to push me and make me grow in the arts. As time moved on I came to love photography so much that I decide to make it my major at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. The name Nhyira means “blessed” and K is just my middle name which is Kwabena so when I put the two together I got NhyiraKPhotography.
Ever since I started the name for my company nothing but “Blessings” have been coming my way and I am very grateful
Please tell us about your art.
I create art that reflects the souls. A photograph is being just a mirror that shows what you look like, it shows the emotions that lay dormant within us. All of my photographs have an unique emotion to it or makes you reminisce about the good times.
I do not just make photos, I make art!!
I photograph everything from weddings, to couples, to graduations…. anything anyone need, I can do it
People can take away a warm feeling from the art and their time with me. I am an extremely friendly person
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
My advice for other artists would be to always reach out to other artists. This world doesn’t understand art like we do. If anyone feel lonely they can always reach out to me because I know how it feel to just start up and be alone. If you want to reach out, please email me at www.nhyirakphotography.com and we can talk more and even connect
