Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Woan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Chartwell Insurance Services was my maternity project when my youngest was born. She just turned 17. I didn’t know anything about babies and thought I would be bored.
Needless to say, I was pretty busy but I did have a chance to put a business plan together. For some time before my daughter was born I was sure that affluent and individuals of emerging wealth needed an insurance advocate who focused solely on the needs of those individuals, rather than as a sideline accommodation to commercial customers. In the ensuing years our client base has grown along with our reputation.
We’re still doing exactly what I envisioned – providing property and casualty insurance for individuals including homes, collections, umbrella liability and some additional coverages like non-profit directors and officer’s liability, independent trustee liability, group excess liability and art title insurance to those who appreciate our consultative and informed approach.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is never easy. Our challenge has always been and continues to be finding talent to add to our team who are articulate, thoughtful and care about our clients.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Watching my mother and my grandmother cook. They picked vegetables and canned, made pasta sauce, pasta, bread, marshmallows, fudge and pies. There wasn’t anything they made that I didn’t love to eat.
