Meet Christopher Tong of My Private Chef

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Tong.

Christopher, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Hamburg and had the opportunity to live in several countries in my youth. I attended culinary school and completed my apprenticeship in Germany. At age 22, I was recruited to join the culinary staff of Chicago’s Mayfair Regent Hotel’s award-winning restaurant, Ciel Blue. Since then, I have been a chef in the United States for more than 25 years.

I continued my career at prestigious establishments around the country including the Disney Swan Hotel in Orlando, the world famous Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, and the Sutton Place and Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

One day, a friend asked me to create a beautiful gourmet dinner for his business associates. They were foodies and he wanted to create a special evening. And it was fantastic! We created a special wild game menu, paired delicious wines, rented china and crystal and asked one of my favorite waitstaff to serve. My friend was so happy because he could relax and enjoy his guests. We received rave reviews.

I loved meeting the guests, customizing the menu to their tastes and creating all the details for a truly gourmet dining experience. I realized that evening that I could create this business concept for social and corporate entertaining. And that’s exactly what I did!

My Private Chef, Inc. launched in 2006.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In an entrepreneurial venture, errors are expected. Most of the time, they are learning opportunities.

My Private Chef is an upscale gourmet dining service. Our private dinner service is one of the most popular offerings.

With My Private Chef, you can host an elegant event and be able to enjoy your guests. Our staff will bring all ingredients and cookware. We set your table with your finest, or we can bring in extras such as flowers, linens, china and crystal. After the event, we clean your kitchen leaving you to enjoy the rest of your special evening.

What sets us apart is how we customize the menu and event around your tastes with exceptional attention to detail. This may involve a special theme or type of cuisine. All of our menus strive to capture the freshness and flavors of the season. My Private Chef also offers organic vegetarian, vegan and raw culinary creations.

Our team of Chefs and support staff are professionally trained. You can depend on the talented My Private Chef team for consistent excellence to assure an unforgettable dining experience. Whether it’s for a cocktail party or a large event, we’re committed to excellence.

Our service is perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, corporate and business entertaining, and that ever-so-special private dinner party.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had the opportunity to live in several countries in my youth.
The experiences in those countries ultimately shaped who I am and how I perceive the world. Exposure to different cuisines, cultures, and languages have enriched my life.

    I have known Chris Tong from his volunteer work at Gilda’s Club , a cancer wellness center. His dedication to providing elegant meals and quarterly cooking demonstrations has enriched the lives of many. He not only offered beautiful cuisine but also gave cooking advice on the health benefits of ingredients. A truly marvelous experience and generous human being.
