Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulina Youkhanna.
Paulina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My mother taught my sister and I how to wax when we were very young. We practiced on each other throughout the years perfecting our skills. I started working in the salon industry for a family friend by the time I was 18. By the time I was 20 years old I was working downtown Chicago!! My sister Norma chose to go to college for a few years but eventually chose to join the salon industry as well. After working downtown for 15 years for both corporate and privately owned salons we decided to go out on our own. In October of 2006 House of Wax Day Spa was born!!!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely been a long road!!! The challenges of starting your own business are not easy!!! Paperwork and permits, long drawn out construction to remodel a space we had found in Morton Grove and then building a new clientele. The economy in 2006 wasn’t so great and I had just invested my life savings in this new adventure. Our mother passed away about a year later which devastated us both but we kept on trucking!! My sister and I never gave up, we kept our heads held high and kept on busting our butts!! Our business began to flourish and after 9 years in Morton Grove it was time to expand. House of Wax had outgrown its original small location and it was time for a little change. In September of 2016 House of Wax Day Spa was moved to Glenview at 1006 Church St.

House of Wax Day Spa specializes in Waxing, Facials and Lash & Brow tints. We take great pride in the service we provide to our clients. Sanitation is our number 1 priority!!! We specialize in Brazilian bikinis (women only). Our clients are made to feel comfortable and at ease from the moment we step into the treatment room to start the service. We have a long loyal following because our clients recognize the sanitation and great efforts we put into our work. My sister and I are so proud of what we’ve built and grateful to all our clients who have helped us succeed throughout the years. Warning: we are funny, loud and crazy little ladies but we can handle any hairy situation!!!!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Coming to America!!! Now we’re living the dream as small business owners!!
