Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Winter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Paula. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Throughout my working career, identifying and creating modes of expression are a recurring theme. My story includes an Interior Design degree, an awarded competitive internship with Parsons New School in New York, career experience in residential interior design working with new clients and, very importantly, many repeat clients, custom furniture design and manufacturing… and the list goes on! My success is founded in always learning, problem solving for my clients, and helping my clients enjoy their homes surrounded with beauty and balance. Currently, I have my residential design practice as well as having launched a fabulous new furniture line in 2016-PWDesign furniture.
I was recently asked to define my style….
“I create a confident mix of calm, comfort, and color. My projects are most often transitional, with a thoughtful and traditional sense of balance.”
Has it been a smooth road?
Is any successful road without struggles? If there aren’t any struggles, where are those sources for learning along the way?
I had a partnership for many years that dissolved in late 2007. It was an amicable situation–but, with extremely challenging timing. From January of 2008 until the present, and all throughout those very difficult days in our economy, I’ve maintained a robust practice and positive attitude. I don’t bring my ego into ANY project–it’s most certainly about my client, their home, and how we can achieve our goals. However, without a bit of ego telling you that you’re good at your profession, I believe you’d be sunk.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Paula Winter Design is about helping and creating.
I come from a large family–lots of dynamics–and this has been a tremendous resource for me. I’m very often brought in to design areas in a home used for family gatherings whether small dinners or large scale holidays. The spaces become functional, with the essence of style envisioned by my client and created specifically for them, for a variety of daily living and entertaining.
I also have designed several children’s rooms which is incredibly fun and rewarding. These have been nurseries, young girls’ and boys’ rooms, and young teens.
Over the years, I am most proud when I see my clients living in and enjoying the environment we’ve worked on together. A close second would be how often a client will call me back in on a new project, a new home, or an update–a wonderful sense of style and trust is already a respected foundation.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Chicago is a great city for design and interior design! Plus, the resources are plentiful.
