Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Zitlin.
Nancy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was first introduced to health coaching through a friend of mine while she was going through getting her certification in the same field. She needed someone to work with for her six months in the program, and she chose me as her subject. At that time, I was in transition – in between jobs, looking for that next chapter, ready to explore what was next in my career path. Her coaching was every much a holistic approach, so we were able to delve into more than just nutrition, but also unveil deep roots of old habits, things that got in the way of living passionately and fully.
Within short order, her style sparked something in me – I felt like this was the work that I was supposed to be doing. At this time in my life, mid-fifties, going back to school seemed like the impossible. After the third time of her trying to convince me, I took a giant leap and signed up for certification as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.
I believe that all my past jobs up until this point have made me who I am today, yet I feel like I’ve come home. This is where I belong. This is so significant in my life after all that I’ve done, that it truly feels like it’s never too late to rewrite your story. I’m so grateful to know that I’m making a difference in people’s lives with the coaching and work that I do.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Coaching comes naturally for me. The part that’s a challenge is marketing, social media… anything that has to do with putting myself out there. Even as an extrovert, networking sometimes seemed like a nauseating, hellacious, vile way of meeting people. As a connector, it didn’t always seem like an authentic way to create a relationship… until I met Women Belong. The Women Belong networking group has helped me grow my business, both personally and professionally, in ways I never dreamed.
Holistic Nutrition Health Coach – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
By asking the right questions, I help uncover your story and unravel your health challenges… so you can start enjoying a more nourishing life.
I definitely want to talk about how I create a safe space for you. My work involves side-by-side journeying through your health and wellness goals. It’s about baby steps. It’s about breaking the cycle of yo-yo dieting. It’s about learning how foods can effect and affect your mind, body, and spirit.
In addition to one-on-one coaching, I put together women’s groups that encourage the growth and supportive aspects of going through self-care and self-discovery.
There’s something about watching the transformation happen and seeing the successes of my clients that reminds me that the love and nurturing support I give is making a difference.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Watching my clients uncover their stories is my success. Seeing them create new lifestyles and habits after our work together is success. It is true success for me – the more women I can touch and support on their self-discovery.
