Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Abernathy.
A Polished Work nail spa lounge was started in 2013, after Monica Abernathy realized there was a great opportunity for nails salons of high caliber on the south side. Monica always had the desire to do nails. More importantly, she noticed the need for an elevated experience around nail service. Monica believes that receiving manicures and pedicures should be relaxing self-care experiences. It should not be treated as another errand that needs to be handled as quickly as possible.
Some say the eyes are the windows to your soul, but Monica feels it’s your hands that tell your story. She has always had her hands in all things creative. And, ultimately, her passion was the driving force behind creating a salon providing optimal quality nail care services in an inner city community.
Knowing that success and happiness allows us to all to live more fulfilled lives, Monica Abernathy is always willing to lend a helping hand in the development of a polished work. When Monica is not providing essential care to clients, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and business partner Fred Abernathy, and their two daughters.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road has definitely had its share potholes & pitfalls! But anything that is precious goes through a process. The most notable challenges we’ve faced are disrupting the status quo of discount nail shops. There is so much misinformation & poor practice in the nail industry that it has become the standard. We have had to overcome the value vs cost perspective. However, we’ve built a loyal clientele of those who truly value professionalism and quality.

A Polished Work is a full service nail salon with a lively and refreshing ambiance. We provide great service and quality nail care. We are most proud of our reputation and the community that’s been cultivated among our clients. A Polished Work has a unique client-centered approach. While we love the latest trends, clients are also educated on the condition of their nails & provided with nail care regimens. Clients never feel rushed or that they are just another customer.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Family road trips to Louisiana.
