Meet Molly Hayden of Painting In Layers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Hayden.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Molly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was laid off from my graphic design job in Real Estate during the crash in 2010. Having extra time I began volunteering and painting again. Being from Chicago I was always inspired by the city and during commutes, I would see all kinds of street art from the elevated train we have. One of the projects I volunteered for was called After Supper Visions and it was a photography project for the homeless who attended dinner to get a camera and then the photos were developed and sold to make money for their own lives.

I felt this was a very rewarding experience and I thought what if I could do something with paint and the homeless. Homelessness and hunger because there is food that needs to be dispersed to people right here in Chicago and I also feel that I can show people skills that will help them to make money for themselves with art. To keep minds off of hunger while giving them an opportunity to use the creative side of their brain. We can sell the art for funds to help people who deserve a chance to grow and support themselves.

A large part of homelessness and poverty is mental health to help I would show people drawing and painting skills, which leads to the development of sales skills to sell their talents. Now more than ever we need to help the less fortunate to succeed because our society has trapped so many into never-ending despair. My project called Painting In Layers is only in the process of raising funds and donating paintings to various charities to raise money for their projects.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Fundraising and support.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Painting In Layers – what should we know?
My acrylic paintings are abstract with bright colors and patterns layered on top of each other. I also like texture and layer found objects under the paint. The layers of paint are a metaphor for getting my feelings out or showing my inner Ideas and thoughts. My goal is for my paintings to have a purpose to help raise funds for supplies for the less fortunate and homeless. There is so much greed today and we need to help the hungry in our cities.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
After raising enough funds, Painting In Layers would like to have group paint events and eventually my own space to paint and draw with those in need with continuing support in raising money for supplies.
