Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Marengo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband started a business not long after we got married. I saw how passionate he was, right when I was really unhappy with my career as an executive assistant. He encouraged me to leave my company, and start my own thing. I started out doing only professional organizing, and my business slowly turned into interior design consulting. Today, that makes up about 95% of my business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way. It’s been littered with self-doubt, triumphs, and tears. But I am so grateful its MY ROAD. I’m in charge of my life, my business, my success. Every year we just keep growing and taking on even more exciting projects.
Interior Chicago – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Interior Chicago focuses on not only professional organizing, but designing on particularly tight budgets. To my knowledge, there isn’t any other firm in the Chicagoland area who do what we do. We organize beautiful but functional spaces, for families, businesses, and individuals.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To date, I’m probably most proud of the Music Box Theatre project that we designed. When they expanded their iconic theatre to the storefront next door, and hired us, I felt so honored to be trusted with this Chicago icon. I’m very proud of how that project turned out, and that we were able to create a space that functioned in many ways for their various events.
