Meet Judy Maldonado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Maldonado.

Judy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was a partner of a firm in Lincoln Park, but I was commuting to work every day from Gurnee. I finally decided to take a chance and hang my own shingle. I opened the doors to my Gurnee office on January 1, 2012. I was a solo practitioner at the time and didn’t even have an assistant. Since then, I have hired several paralegals and an associate attorney. I have expanded into a larger office and my practice has grown exponentially.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s always scary to step out into unknown territory with no safety net. Hiring new people can also be a challenge, but I have been blessed with each member of my staff. They are competent, hardworking, dedicated team players who genuinely care about each of our clients. The journey has not always been easy, but I’m thankful to have a great team to journey with.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a firm that specializes in real estate and estate planning law. I love that our firm’s true focus is on helping people to achieve their dreams. I’ve always told my office that if making money ever becomes our goal, we have lost sight of what is really important. I think our commitment to care for our clients as though they are family is what makes our firm unique.

What were you like growing up?
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to become an attorney. While my friends were playing house, I was playing courtroom. I’m first generation Indian and I grew up in a very strict and traditional home. Since I wasn’t allowed to go out or do many of the things my peers were doing, I spent a lot of time reading. My love of reading helped me to excel in school and reach my dreams of becoming a lawyer.
