Meet Jordan Vanden Bos of Events by JVB

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Vanden Bos.

Jordan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember I’ve always had a knack for being crafty and an affinity for using those skills to serve others. Growing up in and around the Chicagoland area, I mostly used those skills to create personal gifts and plan events for loved ones but never thought seriously about turning that passion into a career.

I attended Northern Illinois University where I received a degree in accounting as well as met my husband and it wasn’t until I planned our own wedding that I realized I could combine my creative skills with the business knowledge that I had acquired to serve couples in and around our beautiful city.

I got my start by planning events and weddings for friends and family and completely fell in love with the process. After that, I decided to bring the business to the public and since then I’ve had the joy of working with several wonderful couples as well as with so many creative and talented local vendors. I am still new to the industry but have been so encouraged with how supportive the community has been and can’t wait to see what’s next in the journey.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For me, the biggest hurdle was dealing with the “impostor syndrome” and proving to myself that I am worthy and capable of earning the responsibility of managing one of the most important days of a couple’s life. Putting yourself out there and taking a risk is always a challenging process but I began to find comfort and confidence through the support of the amazing creatives in the industry that I have met along the way. I am so thankful for how strong the wedding community is in Chicago.

Another difficulty was obtaining my first client. When I first started out, it was very discouraging to put myself out there and not receive an instant response but the joy I felt after it happened was definitely worth it and helped validate the value that I provide. Perseverance is so crucial to finding success and as I’ve booked more clients and solidified my processes the journey gets better with each new client.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Events by JVB – what should we know?
Events by JVB is in the wedding planning business which really means that we are in the business of helping curate a personalized event that is truly reflective of the unique lives of the couple getting married as well as the friends and family that will surround them on the special day.

Wedding planning can be an overwhelming process and unfortunately has the potential to remove some of the joy from the once-in-a-lifetime season of life that our clients are in. At Events by JVB, we believe that it is our mission to keep our clients focused on the fun parts of the wedding season and not sweating about all the details.

For us, success is measured by the peace of mind of our clients and anticipating their needs before stress can even make an appearance. We do this through employing administrative tools, leveraging our vendor network, and providing personalized stylistic/design inspiration.

As I mentioned earlier, I have a passion for creative projects so one thing that I take personal pride is in paying attention to what makes our clients light up and finding ways to surprise them in a special way on their wedding day. So fun!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I can’t emphasize enough that the local vendor network in Chicagoland has been amazing. From coaching me through small details to helping me see the big picture, I owe such a debt of gratitude to these creatives that have been so generous to with their time. I also have to credit my husband for supporting my endeavors and cheering me on every step of the way.

Another fun story that I like to tell is that when I was first contemplating making the leap into the wedding industry, I binged listened to the “She Creates Business” podcast hosted by Kinsey Roberts to soak up all the information that I possibly could. That podcast was an inspiration to me as well as helped build a foundational knowledge of the industry. A few weeks ago, I was able to meet Kinsey as she was gracious enough to host me as a guest on the podcast. It was a really cool “full-circle” moment.
