Meet Joe Hakimian of Rose Estate Jewelers in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Hakimian.

Joe, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ever since I can remember diamonds, fine jewelry and antiques have been a big part of my life! My family has been in the Jewelry business for over 38 years and I always knew this is what I wanted to do. In high school I would come work with my dad during my summers learning the 4 C’s of diamonds, how to spot and value a fine estate jewelry piece and other tricks of the trade. In college I studied business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and took a diamond grading course through the Gemological Institute of America. After college I spent a year overseas at one of the largest polished diamond manufacturers in the world (YDI Diamonds in Ramat Gan, Israel) honing my diamond grading and valuation skills . And ever since I have been working with my dad full time in the family business.

Has it been a smooth road?
Every day is an adventure in this business and I love what I do. I literally get excited to go to work every day, and I know I am extremely fortunate to say so. Being able to help people learn about their family’s heirlooms and estates, evaluating antiques, gemstones and fine jewelry from over 100 years ago, giving people a family-owned trusted and welcoming environment to evaluate and sell their items. It makes my job pretty darn awesome

Rose Estate Jewelers is one of the largest buyers and sellers of Fine Estate, Antique, and Signed Jewelry in Chicago. Whether it’s a family heirloom, a modern diamond engagement ring, a fine antique from an estate or some other jewelry item someone may be interested in learning about or selling, we provide a safe, discreet and welcoming environment to do so.

Our story began when our founder Murray Rose’s family opened their first jewelry store in Long Island in 1945. After many years in the retail side of the industry Murray decided to focus primarily on Estate Jewelry and in 1993 he opened his first estate jewelry company in New York City which would become one of the largest estate jewelry companies in New York. In 1995 he moved the business to the Windy City. In 2011 Murray joined forces with my dad and I who owned Hakimian Imports, a wholesale jewelry company on Jewelers Row, to further boost the services and knowledge Rose Estate Jewelers has to offer, and the rest is history!

We pride ourselves on being a family owned business where our customers always come first.
