Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise K. Ambre.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Denise. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I actually graduated from Northwestern University with an Engineering degree! I worked in the corporate world for a few years and decided it wasn’t for me. I really wanted to do something that involved helping people. So I went back to graduate school at Loyola University for my Masters in Social Work and then on to get my Analytic training as well at the Wisconsin Institute for Psychoanalysis.
As a young social worker, I worked for a non-profit agency for a long time before going out on my own. It was one of the few agencies that did long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy and was a great place to learn and “grow up” as a therapist!
Eventually, I started my own private practice and I now have a couple of therapists working for me.
Taking the risk to switch careers I discovered my passion for being a psychotherapist/psychoanalyst. Of listening to people’s stories and being a part of helping them courageously move forward in their lives. This passion has only grown throughout the years of doing this work.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anything in life goes exactly according to plan so there are always challenges. Most of my challenges have come in the form of transitions. Making the transition from engineer to therapist was first. Then the transition from working at an agency to deciding to run my own business. And finally, to expand my business by adding more therapists. All of these challenges have been growth producing both personally and professionally.
Please tell us about Ambre Associates.
Ambre Associates is a psychotherapy practice in Glenview. We treat individual adults, adolescents, children, and couples. As psychodynamic psychotherapists, our goal is to help people understand and resolve the challenges in their life. By using different therapy approaches and techniques, we try to unearth long-standing patterns or negative perceptions that interfere with someone living a full and meaningful life.
I take pride in providing a comfortable, friendly and authentic atmosphere that puts people at ease as they begin to work through difficult and often painful material in their lives.
Through developing therapeutic relationships, it is an honor to work with patients as they make positive, growth producing decisions for their lives.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I was to do anything differently it would be to have had more training in the business aspect of developing a private practice.
