Meet Carly Carynski of LOLA Event Productions in Wicker Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Carynski.

Carly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was in college, I knew hospitality was the area I wanted to be in, but there are so many different areas of the industry that I interned and worked in as many as I could. They ranged from working at the front desk of a hotel to assisting the event sales manager at a restaurant group to a more corporate environment that dealt with trade shows and conventions. Towards the end of my last year of college, I noticed a friend of a friend kept posting beautiful photos from weddings that she had worked, so I reached out to learn more about what her position entailed and the company. About a month later, I was on-site for my interview with LOLA. I arrived at about 2pm at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park only really knowing the planners name that I was working with that day. About 12 hours later, I was walking out of Millennium Park to go home and just thought, “Oh man, I really loved that”. It felt like the dots had finally been connected and I knew what I was supposed to be doing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the biggest struggles with this career is that you will miss out on some of the big moments with family and friends. You are planning a year or two out with clients, so you somewhat have to do the same thing with your personal life. I try so very hard to not miss any of the big events, but when you have a job where you are working on weekends then you just are going to miss out sometimes.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LOLA Event Productions story. Tell us more about the business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know if luck really has played a role in my life and career, but the opportunities that have been presented to me have obviously played a major role. The connections I have established through different opportunities (internships and jobs) have aided in getting me to where I am now.
