Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Locke.
Anna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After growing up as a super creative child, I earned degrees in Environmental Science and Geography, only to spend most of my 20’s soul searching, exploring every opportunity that came my way, and trying to figure out my purpose.
I ended up moving all over the country, got married, and went through 2 years of un/under-employment that I call my quarter life crisis. My husband and I finally moved to Chicago in 2012 and I found a full-time job as a science educator at a wonderful non-profit, but quickly realized that it still wasn’t the right fit for me.
In 2014 I quit my job to embark on the biggest adventure of my life so far as a full-time life and wellness coach and creative entrepreneur. It. has. been. a. ride.
After 2 years of health and fitness coaching, I realized that helping women experience breakthroughs and shifts in their lives makes me happier than anything else and decided to become a life coach!
I completed my life coaching certification in February 2017 and am now thrilled to support fellow multi-passionate entrepreneurs in a deeper capacity in 1:1 life coaching practice as well as my health and fitness accountability groups that emphasize self-care and empowerment.
Looking back to connect the dots, I can see how my creativity never left me, and I’m still relentlessly curious about exploring and understanding ourselves and the world around us and inspiring other women to overcome their fears and chase their dreams!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I literally laughed at this question. The road has been anything but smooth, and I’m reminded of that graphic that shows “Success: expected (a smooth straight line) vs reality (a messy line resembling a pile of spaghetti).” The main struggles I’ve faced have been internal.
When you decide to strike out on your own and follow your calling as an entrepreneur, you are literally forced to face all your deepest fears and insecurities. Will I fail? Will I succeed? Will people judge me? Who is going to care about what I’m doing? When you expose your dreams to the world you make yourself extremely vulnerable, and I’ve discovered that growing a business becomes a giant journey in personal development and faith.
I have always been a high achiever and perfectionist, and that perfectionism can be my biggest ally as well as my biggest downfall. Learning how to be ok with being a beginner, embracing the journey, releasing my attachment to outcomes, and trusting myself have been big lessons.
I’ve also struggled with work/life balance and learning that success doesn’t just come from working harder and longer. It’s critical to learn how to slow down, pace yourself, and work from a place of rest, and receive support instead of controlling and micromanaging everything.
Please tell us about Anna Maria Locke Coaching.
I call myself “multi passionate” because I have so many passions and interests and love finding a way to weave them all together into my life’s work. I’m a certified life coach for other women in business who want support in overcoming their fears and creating more alignment and joy in their lives without burning out. I also run virtual health and fitness accountability groups using at-home workout programs and holistic nutrition plans.
My soul-mate client is a woman who is extremely successful, but knows she is limiting her own potential, whether that’s from fear, inner critic, or lack of priorities and boundaries. She understands that she is her business’ most valuable asset and wants to make self-care a part of her daily lifestyle so she can thrive and have more fun!
I also sell scarves and digital watercolor art on Etsy.
I’m known for:
–cycle syncing to optimize your feminine energy
–shining a light on your potential
–inspiring and empowering women to embrace their truth and authenticity, behind the scenes and in their online presence.
–keeping it real and sharing the ups and downs “real life” moments!
I’m most proud of having enough belief in myself and my dreams to choose this path and know that it’s my calling. I’m also proud of the women who have allowed me to be part of their journey; watching them transform and find their confidence and power is the best.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
It’s important to dream big, but honestly, I would have set my initial bar a little lower for myself, ha! I have a tendency to dream big, and then put a lot of pressure on myself to “get there” already. I am trying to practice what I preach and extend more patience and compassion to myself — achieving goals is an ongoing process!
I would also tell myself that it IS possible to do and have everything on my heart. It’s not going to happen overnight, but that doesn’t mean I can’t feel successful and fulfilled NOW.
