Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Burdick.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Angela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2003, I opened VIP Bachelorette; a company specifically centered on the concept of planning ‘Bachelorette Parties with Class.’ Ensuring that a package was offered for every type of bride and keeping the packages affordable is how the company continued to grow.
In 2005, I opened VIP Chicago Parties—made up of VIP Bachelorette, VIP Bachelor and VIP Birthdays. Today, VIP is going strong living up to its mission to elevate the Bachelorette party to a fun rite of passage, a time to celebrate with friends and create lasting memories.
In 2014, I began working with Corporate Tailgate and Boat Rentals and expanded our service to include boat rentals. The owner loved the idea of parties renting boats and asked me to become part of his team. Since that time I helped grow the business and now am a managing partner of Chicago Boat Rentals.
Personally, I am committed to providing assistance to sexually abused women and children. As a survivor of sexual abuse, I studied criminal justice and Paralegal Studies in hopes of assisting even more. I have volunteered and assisted many non-profit organizations and have spoken at colleges, festivals and rallies in regards to sexual assault.
Has it been a smooth road?
In 2003, bachelorette parties were considered liquor and strippers. The biggest obstacle then was our name VIP Bachelorette. The word bachelorette has the stigma of strippers. Our concept did not include strippers. It was difficult for many people to understand that the word meant something much more than strippers.
Working with the nightclubs in Chicago was challenging as the high turnover of staff affected our packages with each venue.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with VIP Chicago Parties – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
VIP Chicago Parties does not charge a planning fee but rather offers all-inclusive packages. As a woman owned company (and small business) in Chicago, I am grateful every day that we are still going strong and continuing to grow after 14 years!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What is there not to love about Chicago?
From all its incredible history (world fair, Chicago fire) to being the first for many things (for example the remote control by Zenith or the nation’s first skyscraper in 1884), the sports and the diehard loyalty to the teams by us Chicagoans! Go Cubs!
Let’s face it, the city is beautiful, it’s cleaner than most other cities, the restaurants are amazing and the people are fabulous. The people work hard and also play hard! We are diverse, we are all unique but we are (in my opinion) accepting of all no matter what the ethnic background or economic status.
We will always come together whether it is to help shovel a car out of snow or help feed those in need. It does not matter to us. Unlike many large cities, Chicagoan’s do not walk around with a sense of entitlement. People in business suits will high five and have beers and watch the games with people in their factory suits. We don’t care. We love Chicago and we love each other.
