Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Guglielmo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alison. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been professionally editing closets and curating styles since 2007. I am blessed to work with people from all walks of life and the opportunity to use my creativity and passion for style on a daily basis. In the beginning, I started very organically by styling friends. What first began as a hobby turned into a referral business that has evolved to be so much more than I ever imagined. I am a firm believer in the art of self-expression and the power of a killer outfit. I am living my dream, building confidence in my clients and taking the guesswork out of fashion.
Has it been a smooth road?
The opportunity to do what I love and showcase my talent has been such a dream. I launched my business on a whim over 10 years ago and it was a happy success from the get-go. But there is no job that doesn’t come with its obstacles. I am constantly pushing myself to view things outside the box and reinventing my process to continue to be unique with each and every client. It’s so important in my line of work to stay current and relevant, if not fashion-forward.
As a business owner, I’m not just the artist. I’m also the CEO, the accountant, the web-designer, the marketer, and the graphic designer, which means there are always areas of business that could use a little more attention (ahem… social media). I’m happiest when I am putting my time and energy into working one-on-one with my clients, but a big focus for 2018 is utilizing the benefits of social media and the impact it can have on my business.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Working as a personal stylist is a very intimate experience. My clients are leaving their look in my hands, and for that, I am truly grateful. I strive to educate my clients on style, fit, and how to put their best foot forward so that they can stop worrying about their appearance and focus on what it is they have to say.
I work with people from all walks of life, from the CEO to the new mom, with those who don’t have the time to style themselves and those who struggle with discovering their best self. My background in garment construction, self-taught circa 1992, allows for an experienced view of what to wear and how to wear it, giving me an extensive knowledge of how to dress the human form.
Personal styling varies from client to client, but my most sought after services are Wardrobe Styling, Personal Shopping, and the Lookbook. I also offer an Insta-style service for those on a budget looking for some quick style advice and a Custom Menswear option for those who struggle to find the right size off-the-rack.
The Wardrobe Stylist: Every closet edit begins with an assessment of your personal style. We’ll discuss favorite pieces, purge what’s over, and create new looks from what’s remaining. When the closet edit is complete, we take a closer look at the keepers and begin creating your new and improved wardrobe with a shopping agenda to fill in gaps or achieve personal styling goals.
The Personal Shopper: The personal shopper appointment begins with a curated “mini-boutique” in the fitting room of a pre-selected store. During this appointment, clients are introduced to new styles, colors, and outfit ideas that coincide with the style they are going for and will best flatter their figure. This is truly one of my favorite appointments because it is the ultimate confidence booster. For clients who prefer a concierge service, we skip the stores. Options are pre-selected to try in the comfort of their own home or office.
The Lookbook: A Lookbook is a collection of photographs using your current wardrobe to reveal outfits that best define your personal style. You’ll discover new ways to wear pieces you thought were over, how best to dress your body type and the absolute on outfits encompassing the elements of style. A Lookbook is a no-brainer in helping you uncover unique and chic outfits from what you already have.
The Insta-Stylist: For those looking for more than a consultation and less than a wardrobe edit. Insta-style is a service for those seeking style advice. Get tips on how to dress your body type, what to wear for that photo shoot, or how to look flawless for a black tie affair. Be advised on how to dress for that upcoming job interview or important meeting. Discover what items you can bring into your wardrobe to add personality and charm to weekend or date night outfits.
The Atelier: A style workshop designed for corporate groups or special events. Learn the quintessential basics everyone must own, what’s trending for the current season, and insider tips and tricks to looking your best.
The Menswear Stylist: In addition to providing the services above, I offer a custom option for those seeking a better fit. This is a great solution for men in the business professional to the business casual world.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is a fantastic hub for the world of styling. While most of my clients are local, I have a handful that travels to Chicago just for the shopping. It’s that good here 🙂
Being a stylist for me is the most difficult and most rewarding job I have ever had. If you are just starting out, be ready to work hard and take a chance. Be educated, styling is not just about shopping, it is 100% about the client. If you don’t know how to dress many different types of people, personalities, body types, and styles, then learn.
