Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Bayer.
Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After spending 10 years in corporate sales with $25 million under my belt, I got the itch to start my own business. A friend who led a local photography group asked me to speak at their upcoming meeting about how to sell in an authentic way. The response was so positive that I was hooked! That developed into creating an online group coaching program called Irresistible Selling. What began as a local Chicago business grew into an international business and I’m proud to say we have students from all over the world!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, heavens, no! One thing you don’t always think about or fully appreciate when you own a business is how many hats you must wear. Not only that, but there’s a lot of noise out there about what you should be focusing your time on. And it’s not like you can go to your boss and ask what you should do next because you ARE the boss!
I’ve been fortunate enough to grow by word of mouth and referrals, but to reach my larger business goals, I’ve had to step on the gas and invest in marketing and outsourcing tasks. I had to get to a point where I realized that my time is better spent on the activities I’m good at and which generate sales and to outsource the rest.
Please tell us about Irresistible Selling.
My business grew from my love of helping people. I teach biz owners how to book higher-paying clients through my signature program, Irresistible Selling. What makes my strategies and methods different is that they produce fast, tangible results. My clients book higher-paying clients, often on the spot, and their confidence (and income) soars. So their investment pays for itself often with one new client, but the best part about it is that the strategies keep paying dividends for the rest of their career because they’ll continue to use them forever.
One of the best compliments I’ve received from clients is that after working with me, they feel like they’re not selling at all, just being themselves. That’s how I want them to feel because I know so many of us don’t want to be pushy or come across as sales-y.
Most creative businesses start out of a love for their craft, but they don’t know how to sell themselves or their company in a way that feels good to them. Since sales is the lifeblood of every business, helping them learn how to attract and book the best-fitting clients means that the world can benefit from their amazing talents.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories is getting up in the middle of the night and piling into our station wagon and driving to Hayward, Wisconsin with my family. I looked forward to it every summer and thought it was so cool to go to bed, then have my parents wake us up and drive 8 hours until we reached the resort. They had a game room, nightly activities for kids, I fished with my dad, and we swam in the lake every day. Those are memories I’ll have forever.
