Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerre Berry.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing hair and makeup while in high school and got my Cosmetology license while in high school. Worked in a beauty salon while in college. After I graduated, I went to Columbia College for Makeup Artistry and started doing bridal makeup and hair, headshots for actors, and models in the Chicago land area. I always knew I wanted to hair and makeup in the fashion community so I starting building a portfolio working with models, photographers, and Chicago’s Modeling Agencies. My book caught the eye of one of the agents of Factor Artist and I met with them. Nothing happened overnight, I still worked on building my portfolio, but I sighed with Factor Artist. Today, I am living my dreams of doing hair and makeup and seeing my work for my clients both locally and nationally
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of the struggles and challenges for me were hearing the word, “no” and not giving up. At the being of my career, I had to reach out to a lot of people by cold calling or email, submitting my work for a job, or asking a photographer to work with me. Sometimes, you hear no. The hard part is not letting it defeat you and trying to not take it so personally. I had to continue to push myself and work harder
Please tell us about Kerre Berry.
I work as a Hairstylist and Makeup Artist for Commercial and Advertising clients, fashion and editorial clients, bridal and personal clients. What I feel like I do best is listen to what a client expects, and having the skill and ability to deliver that I specialize in all hair types and textures, wigs and hair extensions. I also specialize in airbrush makeup application.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started working on my portfolio earlier and worked as an assistant more.
