Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Markow.
Andrew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 1996, my wife and I were building our dream home and could not find the perfect fireplace. We teamed up with our late architect, Doug Garofalo and designed our own fireplace that soon became known as the Fireorb. In 2001, we decided to show the Fireorb to the general public and trade at the High End Luxury Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City. The Fireorb became a great success and we decided to start a company and began manufacturing on a larger scale. As of 2018, we have the Fireorb in 46 different countries around the world with the focus on the North American Market.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When starting out the Fireorb company we did not have prior knowledge of manufacturing, marketing and sales so we had to learn along the way.
Please tell us about Fireorb.
Fireorb LLC is a modern fireplace manufacturer and sale company with worldwide distribution. Now style-conscious homeowners have an alternative to the age-old square fireplace, thanks to Fireorb’s suspended hearth. The Fireorb fireplace is made of steel spun into a precise, curved form and is engineered to be hung easily from any ceiling. Able to rotate 260 degrees on a ball-bearing system, the wood burning Fireorb can be turned to suit to suit a mood.
Designed by adventurous Chicago architect Doug Garofalo, the Fireorb was created to give both designers and residents increased flexibility in focusing a fireplace’s glow.
The flexibility also means that the Fireorb can produce unique architectural moments. Essentially you can have fire floating in the air in a room, in front of a window and even a fire floating in a landscape.
Garofalo was also extremely conscious of form and materials in the development of the Fireorb. The exact shape was selected to be harmonious with architectural history, while at the same time being decidedly 21st century.
Our company has the ability to cater to the needs of the clients such as requests of specific color, outdoor placement of the Fireorb and various fire capabilities that include wood burning and biofuel.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood is my trip to India when I was thirteen years old. I went with my parents for 8 months as my father was on business assignment in India. It was a very eye opening experience that I remember to this day.
