Meet Alicia Londos of A & L Designs Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Londos.

Alicia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been painting and drawing since I was very young, and continue to this day. I have a genuine passion for it and I see myself doing this for the rest of my life.

One of my favorite quotes is from Degas, and states that “art is not what you see it is what you make others see” and I try to apply this concept to all of the art I create, whether it is a painting or drawing and even teaching others. My art pieces mainly focus on capturing the human form and emotions related to it in the space, but also love to include design elements.

My company is an umbrella for all my art-related ventures. These include painting and drawing art pieces, teaching painting classes, and creating clothing items from some of my art designs…

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has been a combination of smooth and bumpy. I go between art and my day job as an IT Consultant. In juggling both careers, it’s fun and rewarding at times but it does keeps me pretty busy. I somehow seem to keep creative in both areas.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I own A & L Designs studio which specializes in painting, drawing and teaching a variety of painting and mixed media classes. Each year I try to attend art fairs in the Chicago Land area to share and promote my artwork.

One exciting project I am currently working on is for the Wyndham Hotel in Chicago and Puerto Rico. They commissioned my talent and skills to create commercial paintings for their restaurants at each location to be used for branding and marketing. So far, it’s been going great and everyone is excited about the products delivered during each stage of the project.

Throughout the year, I teach painting classes at my studio space as well as other locations. Classes offered include painting on canvas, decorating and painting wine glasses, mason jars, and flower vases, as well as photo image transfer classes. I can host these classes for small private groups as well as large corporate ones.

I have also partnered up with a company called Vida to showcase, promote and print my art on clothing items such as scarves, shirts, and handbags. That caught on quite fast because people that love art appreciate my eye and are supporting my passion.

What were you like growing up?
Oh, I was a bit rebellious (…who isn’t), but always had focus and drive to create and better myself as a person. While growing up I was always interested in the Arts, athletics and rock music.

I also practiced dance in ballet and jazz, dove as a springboard diver and swam competitively, played soccer, went camping and hiking. I had lots of fun and a couple scars to show for it and some everlasting memories.

As a lifestyle goal though, I continue to be active and participate in triathlons, snowboarding, running, cross-training and yoga.
