Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Rachman.
Matthew spent his career in finance and along the way collected art and furniture to curate his own. Friends and visitors would come over and tell him he had a good eye and should open a gallery….so he did. Matthew opened the gallery in 2015 as a part time as a side hobby and the gallery quickly took off so Matthew gave up his 25 year career in finance to run the gallery. Specializing in contemporary art and modern furnishings the gallery now has a staff of 6 with a client base in Chicago, New York, California and Europe.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A fairly smooth road but always hiccups along the way. The biggest struggle has been to stand out in a very crowded industry. The gallery has done so by sourcing exemplary products and providing flawless customer service.

Our gallery specializes in modern furnishings with an emphasis on Mid-Century Modern. We are known for our carefully curated inventory which has been all meticulously restored using the finest materials and craftsman. Also we are known for representing a group of talented artists from Chicago as well as different parts of the world. We are quite proud of the quality and craftsmanship of our pieces as well as our customer service. What sets us apart is the way we have curated art and furniture together to give our clients an understanding of how pieces will live in their space. Other galleries either do one or the other but we saw a void in the market of bringing the two together and wanted to fill it.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is about personal happiness for all involved in our growing business. We have created a think tank where all our staff can benefit from intangibles beyond a paycheck. Personal growth in the workplace is a vital key to our success and expansion.
