Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jonathan Engstrom, DC, CCSP, CKTP.
Dr. Engstrom, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We began our facility in 2012 with the mindset to provide a different approach to healthcare that was focused on the patient and their needs. Since beginning our practice, we have served the Mundelein community for almost 6 years with direct involvement with the Village itself, local school districts, and as many volunteer events as we could handle. Today we have doubled our physical practice space and were recently name “Best of the Best” for Chiropractic Care by the Daily Herald and its readers. We continually strive to be a/the Center For Wellness in Mundelein and the Lake County area.
Has it been a smooth road?
When we initially began our facility, we had numerous modality types ranging from Chiropractic Care to Mental Health Counseling and every alternative care program in between. Before our one year anniversary we discovered that one of our “officers” who was in charge of the Acupuncture portion of our clinic had been stealing funds for approximately 9 months which had significantly stymied growth. Upon discovery, the individual was removed and the finances mostly recovered. Since that moment, we have rebounded and grown exponentially with every year.
The ever-changing insurance industry has presented challenges for our patients who primarily depend on their insurance benefits for healthcare. With the fluctuation in coverages and allowances difficulties arise when attempting to provide care.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Center For Wellness story. Tell us more about the business.
Center For Wellness is a collective of like-minded practitioners who are looking for non-invasive care for pain, wellness, and at times rehabilitation. Our primary focus is Chiropractic Care where Dr. Jon specializes in family practice, Sports Medicine, Kinesiotaping, and soft tissue techniques. We are known for our focus on medical necessity and attention to our patient’s needs compared to the cookie cutter facilities who provide a generic plan of care for every person. With the Sports Physician designation, we focus on the body as a whole and range of motion care along with spinal manipulation which separates us from the “snap, crackle, pop, and out the door” style of care that is prevalent in our industry. We also currently contract out space in our office to other practitioner types such as massage therapists to provide diversity for patient care. We are most proud of the community impact and support we have after just 5 years of practice. We are known to some as “the minion people” for some of the children’s events we sponsor due to our minion costumes that staff “volunteers” to wear.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We see our company growing in patient population and an added ability to sponsor local sports programs which Dr. Jon is very passionate about. Reinvestment in Center For Wellness and the Village of Mundelein is paramount in our business planning. Since the personable nature of our clinic is what helps us stand apart from the rest we will ensure that patient experience remains the primary focus of our care.
