Meet Von Dirr LCMT of Viride wellness spa in Carol Stream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Von Dirr LCMT.

Von, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My first experience with massage & bodywork was after the loss of my father at his young age of 44. A great friend of mine gifted me a day spa package. She told me this would be the timeout I needed to take my mind off what I was going through. I truly enjoyed the entire experience but had no idea this event would introduce me to my life’s career. During the session, my massage therapist informed me that she also practices energy work, specifically aura readings. She mentioned to me that my energy field was green and this meant I worked from my heart, that I was creative, calm, nurturing and a natural healer.

She told me that touch is our first learned sense and we experience the world through this form of nonverbal communication. After about a year of receiving regular massage, I found a different perspective on healing as a holistic approach to health and wellbeing and a deeper understanding of the power of touch. Massage therapy helped me obtain physical, mental and emotional wellness. I wanted to be able to provide the same for others so I began my journey on the path to becoming a massage therapist

9 years ago I received my licensure and have worked in a variety of settings; franchise, day spa, and a resort. The world of massage & bodywork is immense. Working for a company did not allow me to branch out, be creative & learn new and unique alternative therapies. You couldn’t possibly exhaust the options of what you can learn and provide for your clients. I decided to open up my own business 5 years ago. Inspired by my first experience; The name Viride means “green.” Green is the color of calm, balance & healing. I started out as the sole practitioner and have grown into a boutique wellness spa with 5 practitioners and together we have 35+ years combined experience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started out on my own in a small one-room studio with my biggest fear; being unsuccessful. Being a great therapist didn’t mean I was going to be a great business owner. I had great confidence in the growing demand for massage as a necessity and not a luxury. The industry has grown substantially over the years with the introduction of the massage franchise and in a way has become a congested market. I took a leap of faith and was realistic about the challenges and obstacles I could face. A few of my challenges were finding new clients to grow my business and learning how to make my business unique to set it apart from the rest. I was determined.

Please tell us about Viride wellness spa.

Our clients see us an active roll in their health & wellness. We enjoy developing long-term relationships with our clients & strive to provide the proper care needed to help them achieve their wellness goals. Our predominant service is massage therapy. The benefits of bodywork are immense and extend beyond a luxury treatment. You don’t need to wait until you are overworked, stressed, or in pain to receive a massage. Massage works wonders a preventative care.

We have extensive knowledge of our industry with a combined 35+ years experience. We offer many of the popular and well-known services like deep tissue massage, aromatherapy, & facials. We are known for our expansive variety of specialized & unique services that help set us apart from our competition. Our clients can choose from among many massage styles to get relief from chronic pain, reduce stress and to promote overall wellness. We are proud to able to provide unmatched attention and exceptional therapies to our clients.

Some of the unique services that I specialize in are Ashiatsu, Bamboo Fusion®, and my personal creation; the “Mary Jane Massage.”

Ashiatsu is a specific deep tissue technique that uses the feet rather than the hands during the massage. By using bars overhead for balance and support I am able to deliver a deeper relaxing massage. I truly enjoy this style of massage. I never thought I would be using my feet to massage a client and it gives my hands a break which will definitely help to extend my career.

Bamboo fusion® is a heated modality, similar to hot stone, that uses gently heated bamboo tools of different sizes and lengths, and is a popular alternative to a traditional deep tissue. The “Mary Jane Massage” which uses a hemp derived cannabis oil or CBD lotion by Apothecanna to induce a deeper relaxation, enhance pain relief, relieve anxiety.

We offer some traditional Chinese medicine practices that include cupping and Gua Sha as alternative therapies to lower stress, relieve chronic tension & reduce scar tissue caused by injuries. We have corrective and therapeutic forms of bodywork like Myotherapy, Neuromuscular and trigger point that are a treatment for most common musculoskeletal conditions that result from improper posture, poor biomechanics, and injury.

Our latest offerings are the far infrared sauna therapy which provides powerful detoxification & Ketogenic diet coaching; the hottest searched diet since Paleo. The difference we are able to make for our clients is a very rewarding experience. We have over 100 5 star reviews for me and my staff and we are humbled and gracious for every one of them.
