Meet Twyler Jenkins and Dawn Steele Halbert of I Am That Woman Retreat in South Side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Twyler Jenkins and Dawn Steele Halbert.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Twyler and Dawn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Twyler: Eighteen years ago, I started my business, Strategic Events Solutions, where I coordinate meetings and events of all sizes and scopes around the country. Things were going really well, yet around year 15, I was yearning for something new and different. I realized that I had reached all of the goals that I initially set for the business.

Around that same time, I planned a private dinner for my 43rd birthday, inviting 43 close friends, family members and mentors that had impacted me in some capacity. We talked about life and health. We talked about sisterhood. We cried, laughed and shared. Afterwards, I thought, what if I did this on a larger scale? Five years later, the I Am That Woman Retreat has become a reality.

Dawn: I met Twyler a little over 20 years ago when our paths crossed in the workplace. We stayed in touch over the years and reconnected when Twyler invited me to join her at an event that she was attending. She told me about the I Am That Woman Retreat, and I was on board. We’ve joined forces as business partners to bring the vision to life! I’ve spent more than 30 years in advertising, marketing, and media sales in the corporate sector. This is my first venture into entrepreneurship, and I’m very excited about it.

The I Am That Woman Retreat is a chance to breathe and take in accomplishments. The venue is lush, tranquil and serene. There is no conference room or convention center. The Retreat is about relaxing and getting the information that you need. “Escape to paradise. Return with a plan.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road.

Twyler: When God gives you something, He will make ever provision along the way. I’ve seen the manifestation of my faith throughout the entire planning process for the I Am That Woman Retreat. We created a vision board in January with our ideal roster of speakers. Every one that was available said, “yes!” To have the caliber of speakers that we have is a miracle in itself.

Dawn: If I took a pragmatic look at the beginning, I wouldn’t have set out on this journey. I’ve felt so many emotions along the way. It’s a faith walk.
