Meet Trailblazer Teja Kics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teja Kics.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Dentistry has increasingly become a corporate business throughout the nation. (ie: Aspen Dental, Dental Vue, etc.) Westgate Dental Care is just the opposite. Dr. Peter Kics and I (Teja Kics, owner/Marketing Director) started Westgate Dental Care in 2002 and, along with our highly skilled team, have served patients for 16 years as a local, family-owned dental practice. Our Westgate Dental Care team has built personal relationships with patients over the years, and continues to foster new relationships with new patients who walk through our door every day. Many of our patients have been with us since we opened in 2002 and through their referrals of friends and family, we’ve significantly increased our patient base, so much that we are recently constructed a new dental office to better serve the area.

Our patients are continually “wowed” by the experience they receive when they first visit our office. They are greeted promptly, are seen at their scheduled time, receive an office tour to learn about us and to ask questions, and are cared for by the very best team around (at least we think so!). We like to provide “concierge” service to our patients on a daily basis. As simple as this seems, it’s become increasingly rare to find in today’s medical and dental field. We take a lot of pride in this and invest in continual training for our team to make sure our patients receive the care and service we believe they deserve.

We recently constructed and moved into our brand new, state-of-the-art dental building at 2900 W. Euclid Avenue, Arlington Heights. This facility has allowed us to better serve our patients and our expanding team, and we look forward to serving our patients and community for many years to come. New patients are always welcome to join our Westgate Dental Care family!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most business owners can attest to, growing a business while maintaining a high level of expectations and standards from your team is probably the most challenging struggle we deal with. Finding strong team members – those who are the right “fit” for our company – can be challenging but worth the time, effort and commitment from us.

Our team has developed company Core Values, along with a Mission Statement, that helps us attract and maintain the employees that fit our Westgate Dental Care culture. It’s a culture that fosters a “patient-centric” practice – meaning we try to provide the best care, service, and accommodations for our patients rather than ourselves. We are in the dental industry… but really consider ourselves to be in the service industry.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Westgate Dental Care – what should we know?
My role at Westgate Dental Care is two-fold: I am the owner (with my husband Peter Kics, D.D.S.) and I am the marketing director.

As an owner, I am always thinking about how to make the practice the best place it can be for our patients and for our team. We try to craft a fun yet professional environment that rewards our team members both personally and professionally.

As a marketing director, I’m always learning. My background is actually in education – I used to be an elementary teacher before having my own children and being a stay-at-home mom. About five years ago, I jumped back into the workforce and started my marketing role here with no training or background in marketing. But I had a personal investment – it is our practice and our reputation. Through workshops, seminars and just learning on my own, I’ve developed an organized marketing program for Westgate Dental Care that focuses on three tiers: internal marketing, external marketing, and team building.

There’s a lot to be proud of. We’ve won the Daily Herald Reader’s Choice contest for Best Dentist for the past four years. (This is for all of the Northwest suburbs of Chicagoland.) We just constructed and moved into a 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art dental facility to better serve our growing patient base and team. Our team has grown from five employees to 35 employees. We now have four outstanding associate dentists that work with my husband, Dr. Peter Kics, to better serve our patients. We have expanded hours and are open six days a week to accommodate the busy schedules we know everyone has. The list goes on… lots to be proud of, lots to be tired from. But I wouldn’t have it any other way!
