Meet Trailblazer Rund Daoud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rund Daoud.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rund. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was in school in the city a few years ago, we were limited to the number of food spots on campus. After a while, that gets old and it’s what led me to venture out and explore local restaurants and dessert shops off campus. As time passed and I graduated, I’d collected so many pictures and hadn’t shared them with anyone. My fiance (now husband) encouraged me to change my Instagram account name to something different and focus on it solely being a food account for all the adventures I went on as well as all the food and desserts I cook and bake at home and I did just that. I turned my page into RUNDventures–food exploring in the city and beyond along with cooking and baking in between (it’s all about balance, right?!)

Now, as I’m traveling more and more, I’m expanding my horizons, learning about different cultures and their food and as a result, my page is not just Chicago based anymore. I have tried food from Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean and more. On those trips, I’ve brought back spices and herbs to use in my homemade recipes, so I can try to recreate all the goodness I’ve tasted and shared it with you. I’m so excited I get to share my food adventures with everyone and I hope more and more people will find my page useful

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Far from it, actually. The first year after switching my page to a full-time food account, it took many posts to get feedback and viewers. I had to take time and read up on how to engage and interact in order to see results. Maintaining a steady stream takes so much time and effort out of your day. The way to gain attraction to your page is to constantly make new posts. These need to be made as well as interacting with other fellow foodies on their pages and engaging with one another.

Having a full-time job and expecting to run a popular food page on the side with minimal activity wasn’t going to work. I realized I’d have to dedicate more than just an hour a day. I scheduled my time so that I could explore out at least three times a week and find new places and good places to share with my followers. The other days of the week, I focused on my content and determined what I would share, when I would share it and how I would share it. It is time-consuming but so worth it when people run into me and tell me they tried a recommendation from my page and loved it!

We’d love to hear more about RUNDventures.
My full-time job is a Civil Engineer. My after work activities involve food adventures, cooking, and baking. Being in the kitchen was always one of my passions and filled me with joy. My page is focused on trying local hot spots and new spots and figuring out what’s the best item to order off the menu. I like to share my experiences and I keep them light hearted and fun. On top of that, I also cook meals at home and bake scrumptious desserts that I’m always excited to share with everyone!

I’m so proud of how far my page has come in only two years. A lot of hard work and effort has been put into it and I hope I can continue to share my adventures with everyone. I think what sets me apart from everyone else is who I am as an individual. I’m outgoing and like to joke around a lot and I make sure to work that into my page so that my posts are as genuine and light-hearted as I am.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Two women that have always inspired me in my life are my mom and sister. They are some of the most hardworking people I know and I’ve always looked up to them for advice or help anytime I’d need it. They taught me that hard work pays off in the long run and that it’s better to work hard and earn something rather than simply being handed it. You learn to appreciate more that way. I owe it to them for my success. I will continue my hard work and push through the tough times to see my page succeed.
