Today we’d like to introduce you to Karae Shauntele.
Karae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always loved fashion ever since I was a little girl. I would often rotate between wanting to be a designer or a stylist. As I got older, I began looking for ways to combine my creativity with my love for fashion. I took up things like sewing, styling on Polyvore, sketching, etc. Finally, once I got to college, I started my very own fashion blog, Runway Without Rules.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think I can say that the biggest challenge is actually getting started. We all want everything to be perfect and can often times talk ourselves out of doing something because we feel it’s not up to par. I myself can say that I was a victim of that, and you literally just have to do it! Nothing will ever be perfect, so you can’t beat yourself up about it. Plus, you can always make improvements down the road. Whatever it is that you’re thinking of doing, just do it and have fun with it!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about your business – what should we know?
I am a fashion blogger. My blog titled ‘Runway Without Rules’ is where I showcase my personal style and give styling tips. I think that what sets me apart is that I’m real and relatable. It’s important to me to build relationships with my readers. I want to have conversations with them, not just talk at them.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think that women are in a good position to take on opportunities in the creative spaces. Whether it be social media, marketing, designing, etc.
