Sompol, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My wife and I opened Seadog since December 2010.
We would say that seadog is a family business. We started seadog with only two chefs including me. We had one server. My wife was a manager. We put our heart, our soul, and dedicate work toward seadog and that make us here today.
Has it been a smooth road?
There were many challenges for getting here today. We have been in business for about 7 years now. Things always changed we have to keep up with market trend, we listen to customer needed and managing our public relations but the most challenges for us is maintaining schedule and stuffing. If someone doesn’t show up, call sick, or leaving us for any reasons then we’re short. So getting ready to jump in on any positions is necessary for me. The good thing is that I know all of our dishes and I have about 20 years experience of making sushi. So I’m ready to help in any position to make seadog run smoothly.

Seadog Sushi Bar is a sushi restaurant with four-time Michelin recommended unlike any other. We’re passionate about making delicious, creative sushi while using the highest quality of ingredients.
One of our dishes called “Triple S” was featured in TimeOut Chicago for 100 Best things we ate (and drink).
Our ” Lover maki ” was featured on Chicago’s Best: Date Night.
Seadog would be perfect for date night, catching up with friends or a group celebration! We have an expansive menu and there is food for sushi and non-sushi eaters. One of our notable features is our expansive vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu including a gluten-free option. There is something for everyone to enjoy!
Customers also enjoy a cozy & warm ambiance in our dimly lit dining area all year round and enjoy our beautiful outdoor patio when the weather permitting. Plus we’re BYOB.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Chicago is a beautiful city, the lakefront and parks, There is always something to do.
But what like the most are the people. People are friendly. Chicagoans still say hello, smile at strangers, help you out if you need it, what I like the least is the weather. I wish that I could have longer summer months. I just love outdoor activities especially golfing and fishing.
