Meet Sebastian Micle of New Explode Construction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Micle.

Sebastian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Romania and grew up with my mother only, as my dad died in a terrible accident when I was not even one. I studied engineering and construction and when I graduated, I had a chance to come to America with an 18-month internship. I came here with an internship to work for a construction company in Atlanta, Georgia. While working there, I got to learn one on one about the carpentry trade and construction in general. We were building restaurants, mostly in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. That was in 2004.

In 2006, I moved to the Chicago area and founded New Explode Construction. Initially, I built my business by forging close relationships with Signature Contractors in Evanston and Renovation Experts online with a focus on the core services of commercial office remodeling, restaurant refurbishing, and residential projects. We quickly gained a reputation for our high-quality woodwork, fine carpentry, beautiful decks, and additions. Since then, the business has grown rapidly through referrals and endorsements by its satisfied clients.

Sebastian’s good character has been further evidenced by his compassion through his community involvement and philanthropic contributions which have served to benefit causes such as Humane Society, American Cancer Society, Children’s International, Fundatia Zalauani la Chicago, Ronald McDonald House, and Illinois Leukemia Chapter.

We specialize in residential and commercial remodeling, as well as custom homes and commercial construction and renovation. I like to use quality subcontractors, suppliers, and specialists and I like consistently be on-time and on-budget. I built this company because I trusted myself that I could it all. This country gave me the opportunity to build my own company from nothing and be successful at it.

At the moment, my wife and partner, Ioana, is able to raise our two boys and be around all school activities and such while working with me when kids are in school. We are genuinely thankful to all of our clients, old and new, for all of your continued love, support and referrals.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I still remember my first job. My wife is still teasing me about it, even now. It was for an entire house, removing wallpaper and painting. I really wanted the job. I wanted to start. I gave her a price she couldn’t refuse: $3,900… I worked so hard on that job, just me and my first employee, for about 3 weeks, didn’t make much, if anything, but that made me respect my work, my word and my time, nonetheless, my client. My word is my contract and once I agree on something, I like to keep my work.

It’s been a good road for us. Complaining doesn’t do you good, so take the positive and move forward. Most of my struggles are with my clients building their dream home – not at the beginning, but right at the end when everything is almost ready, but they are important to move in. Finishing touches are the hardest and take time and patience. However, we always move forward and I keep in touch with all of my clients.

New Explode Construction – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
New Explode Construction specializes in residential remodeling, commercial as well as custom home construction. Whether we are taking on a commercial complex, building a custom home, or remodeling a multi-unit building, our success stems largely from our organization, professionalism, and our attention to detail.

We are recognized as one of Chicago’s premier building and remodeling contractors The company prides itself in its strong contingent of quality subcontractors, suppliers, and specialists and in the fact that it is consistently on-time and on budget. We offer a FREE in-home estimate to our clients and are happy to work with clients that are financing their project as well as clients that are going through construction loans or 203K loans.

Both me and my wife are involved one on one with our clients and I truly believe that this makes an impact. It is important to stay in touch and we were able to build friendships through our company.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is when a client is calling me back and hires me again and again and again. I have about 5 clients/friends that I keep hearing from them and I build project after project for them since 2006. This is success for me.

I love that by building a strong family owned company, I can offer our boys stability, love, adventures and my time with them.
